Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD!
O Lord, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive

Sometimes it can feel like God turns a deaf ear toward us when we pray. What do we do when it seems as if our words are uttered in faith but met with silence? That felt reality doesn’t deter the psalmist. They actually just call it out as they feel it: “Let your ears be attentive…” It’s as if they’re saying to God, “Don’t be indifferent or calloused toward me! Would you hear these words and prayers and desires? Would you act on my behalf?” Advent also reminds us of this strange “already but not yet” tension we experience. It can seem as if God has turned a deaf ear toward us, and yet we know and trust that ultimately we have His full attention in Jesus and will never be forsaken. Don’t be afraid to pray honestly…
