Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD!
O Lord, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my pleas for mercy!

The Psalmist cried out for mercy in Psalm 130:2. What is mercy? AW Tozer defined it this way: “Mercy is an attribute of God, an infinite and inexhaustible energy within the divine nature which disposes God to be actively compassionate.” Psalm 130 teaches us to cry out for that which we know is true of God: that He’s merciful and actively compassionate toward us. 2 Corinthians 1:3 says that God is “the Father of mercies.” It’s a part of His essential being! Where do you need God’s mercy today? This season of Advent cry out to the Father of mercies, both thanking Him for the mercy that’s yours in Christ but also asking for real mercy to meet you in the places of need. He has no lack or end to it, so ask boldly!
