[12] “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. [13] Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. [14] You are my friends if you do what I command you.
What a divided, polarized world we live in today! Everyone has their own hot take on whatever current issue is at hand. If someone dares hold to a different perspective than the one we happen to hold, it’s common to simply dismiss the other person entirely. We end up surrounded by people who think the same ways we do, and our news feed intake and social media algorithms have only exacerbated this problem! Family members have rejected family members; friend groups have splintered into smaller, more homogeneous groups. What might Jesus speak to His disciples in a fractured world? According to John 15:12-14 we are called to love others with the same love that Jesus has loved us. We can follow his commandment by laying down our life for the sake of others.
